Remembering the victims of asbestos industrial diseases

Written By: admin on April 28, 201080 CommentsApril 28th is Workers Memorial Day, when internationally people will take the time to commemorate those who have died or suffered serious illness or injury in the course of their work. Workers exposed to asbestos tragically make up a significant part of the number of deaths each year resulting from occupational cancers and lung disease. The HSE estimates that around 4000 people each year die from mesothelioma and asbestos-related lung cancer and the number of non-malignant asbestos diagnoses such as asbestosis has been rising erratically since the 1980s.

A new asbestos support group has been launched to mark the day. The Northern Asbestos Support and Campaign Group will provide support, guidance and state benefits advice to the victims of asbestos industrial disease.
